Best Student Travel Destinations for Science and Adventure

September 18, 2023

In honor of Earth Day we hope you get your students outside for some incredible group travel adventures. Listed below are some of the best student tour destinations we offer on our Gtrek: Science and Adventure educational program!

Costa Rica

Obviously Costa Rica is one of our best and favorites group travel destinations. It’s safe, close to home (but also international), and super fun for exploring science related curriculum in the rainforest, cloud forests, and more. Hydrology, biology, and ornithology are a few of the many sciences we focus on in hotspots like Monteverde, Tamarindo, and Arenal (to only name a few).

Yellowstone National Park

The first national park is rich in outdoor adventure and science-related opportunities. Groups can do some wildlife watching in the Hayden Valley – an area known for abundant wildlife including grizzly and black bear, wolves, elk, bison, and moose. Our guided hikes allow students to uncover the biological and geologic mysteries of the area. Although the idea is to get students outside and off their screens, the giant IMAX experience at the West Yellowstone Wolf and Discovery Center is pretty incredible and totally worth checking out.

Grand Canyon National Park

The Grand Canyon is definitely “grand” to say the least and it’s an awesome destination for science class trips. Combine our unbeatable customer service with your custom-designed itinerary to see the famous Cameron Trading Post, the Painted Desert (also known as the “Land of the Rainbows”), the world famous Antelope Slot Canyon, a Glen Canyon Dam tour, a four-hour scenic float trip on the mighty Colorado river, and swimming in the river for those that are willing to brave the cold water.

Belize

Combine citizen science with Mayan Ruins, the Belizean Jungle, the Belize Barrier Reef System, and fascinating stories of pirates on a student trip to Belize. Like Costa Rica, Belize is great for tourism which makes it a great international outdoor classroom. Students can spend time with local naturalists and scientists to discover the incredible undersea world of the Belize Barrier Reef System – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Topics we cover with our travelers may include conch studies, coral reef ecology, sea turtles, dolphins and manatees.

Montana

Last but not least is Montana, right in our back yard. Billings, MT is where our company began and Hamilton, MT is where our Director of Gtrek lives, skis, fishes, hunts, and connects with teachers and student groups traveling to Yellowstone and Glacier National Park. If you’re looking for a trip that is rich in science and adventure, look no further than Montana. You can’t find a more qualified company to take care of your group to this beautiful destination.
